Domaine Genoux, Château de Mérande, is located in Savoie in Arbin and is owned by the Genoux family associated with Yann Pernuit. The 12-hectare estate has been certified organic since 2009 and is also cultivated biodynamically, without weedkillers or other pesticides. The grape varieties planted are red, Mondeuse and white, Roussanne or Bergeron and Altesse.
Only the slopes between 250 and 350 metres are planted: 7 hectares are reserved for Mondeuse, some of which are more than half a century old, 2 hectares are planted in Roussanne at the foot of the Rocher "Le Grand Blanc", the great terroir of Bergeron, and 1.5 hectares are planted in Altesse and produce the Roussette de Savoie.
Domaine Genoux produces in particular very famous Mondeuse wines such as the "La Belle Romaine", "Le Comte Rouge" and "La Noire" vintages.
Arbin was once located on the Roman road connecting Vienna to Rome and as early as the 2nd century, was surrounded by vineyards. The name Arbin is said to come from Albinus, an illustrious personage and former sub-procurator of Lusitania. Cultivated by the monks of the priory of Arbin dependent on Cluny and then by the Carthusians, the vineyard extended over more than 200 hectares before the phylloxera crisis.
