The Philipponnat Champagne House was born almost 5 centuries ago in 1522, in Ay in the Marne, thanks to Apvril le Philipponnat, owner of vines in a place called "Le Léon", between Ay and Dizy. In the 16th century, the ancestors of the family were winegrowers and merchants, suppliers to Louis XIV, magistrates and Royal Mayors of Ay, a town that had depended directly on the Crown since the Counts of Champagne.
The Philipponnat Champagne House has a unique heritage, between the magnificent historic 18th century cellars of the Château de Mareuil. and an exceptional clos without equivalent in Champagne, the Clos des Goisses, located on a 5.5-hectare pure chalk hillside with a slope of 45° (In the old Champagne dialect, Gois or Goisse designate a very steep hillside) and an extremely privileged southern exposure.
From the Brut Royale Réserve champagne, so representative of the House, through the 1522 Grand Cru cuvée and up to the mythical Clos des Goisses, the style of Champagne Philipponnat is based on the search for a balance between intensity and freshness and where Pinot Noir dominates.
