The history of the Heidsieck family in Champagne began in 1785 when a young German, Florens-Louis Heidsieck, set up a wool and wine trading company in Reims, Heidsieck & C°.
His great-nephew, Charles-Camille Heidsieck, was born in 1822. At the age of 29, in 1851, he founded his own House: Champagne Charles Heidsieck was born. The following year, he set off to discover North America and won over many Champagne lovers. This first trip would lead to others in Europe, where his talents as a great merchant were exercised in Belgium and Great Britain.
It was in memory of the nickname given to it by the Americans, "Champagne Charlie", that the House decided to create a vintage cuvée of the same name and of which 5 vintages were born in 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1985.
Charles Heidseick is also known for having acquired the site of Les Crayères in 1867, 8 kilometres of monumental cellars, dug 30 metres underground in the 3rd century BC and which, since 2015, have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In 2011, Maison Charles Heidsieck was handed over to the Descours family, who have been working tirelessly to develop it ever since. Today, it has a vineyard of about 60 hectares spread between the Marne valley and the Côte des Bar, cultivated with respect for the preservation of the soil and the management of the vines, approved in sustainable viticulture and certified High Environmental Value.
