The Billecart-Salmon Champagne House has a 100-hectare wine estate around Epernay, on the terroirs of the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Marne Valley.
The Billecart-Salmon Champagne House was founded in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ in 1818 when Nicolas François Billecart married Elisabeth Salmon. In 1900, she was a patron of the Universal Exhibition in Paris, in particular the famous Palais du Champagne. The First World War caused significant damage to the vineyard and cellars and it was not until the 1950s that Jean Roland-Billecart modernised the estate, with long fermentation at low temperature and cold settling.
1964 marked the birth of the Nicolas François cuvée in honour of its founder and the seventies saw the reintroduction of rosé, which was little regarded at the time, and has since become the emblematic cuvée of the House of Billecart-Salmon. The modernisation then continued until 2018 with the inauguration of the new cellar and its 24 80 hl barrels. Today, Mathieu Roland-Billecart, the 7th generation of the family, is at the head of the House.
