The Rayne Vigneau vineyard sits on a magnificent and unique hilltop overlooking the Sauternes, the third highest point after Yquem near the commune of Bommes. It was created in the early 17th century by Gabriel de Vigneau. Madame de Rayne, born Catherine de Pontac, bought the Domaine du Vigneau in 1834 and the château then attained the coveted rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé de Sauternes during the famous classification of 1855. It was Albert de Pontac, great-nephew of Madame de Rayne, who gave his name of "Rayne Vigneau" to the property.
Considerable investment and work have been made by successive owners in favour of the quality of the wines. Today, the château embodies a sure value of the appellation claiming, vintage after vintage, a style full of intensity, freshness and length. According to legend, it is its terroir, rich in precious stones, that gives it its incredible golden colour.
