Château Ausone is an exceptional wine, Saint-Emilion's premier grand cru classé A and which owes its name to the Roman poet Ausonius who owned several dozen hectares of vines around Saint-Emilion.
The current vineyard is composed of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc and is located on the Saint-Emilion plateau to the south of the village. It extends over 7.3 hectares of steeply sloping soils, limestone at the top of the hillside and clay-silt at the bottom, exposed to the south-east and thus protected from cold north winds and rain.
Château Ausone has experienced a spectacular renaissance first with Pascal Delbeck, oenologist from 1976, and then at the end of the 90s with its current owner, Alain Vauthier, whose passion has made it possible to reach an unprecedented level of wine quality.
Château Ausone's wines are recognized worldwide as particularly concentrated and intense, with characteristic mineral notes.
