Newton Vineyards is an estate established in 1977 by the Newton family on Spring Mountain Estate, an impressive site in Napa Valley. It extends over 230 hectares and the vineyard represents 20% of the area, i.e. about 48 hectares of terraced hillsides located between 180 and 550 metres above sea level. It includes 112 plots, each planted with a different grape variety: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon or Petit Verdot.
Each plot offers a specific soil type, sun exposure and microclimate and the grapes from each plot are vinified separately to obtain greater complexity of the wines after blending. The estate includes 9 different types of soils, poor and very well drained soils that give low yields and small fruits with very concentrated aromas.
Newton Vineyards prioritizes the conservation and development of the ecosystem in the vineyard and the forests that surround it. Forests represent 80% of the estate and plant and animal biodiversity is totally preserved. Thanks to the many small lakes and ponds that dot the estate, irrigation is natural. The wineries have modern systems for energy conservation and the recycling of composts allows natural fertilization of the vineyards.
The landmark of the estate is a 35-meter-tall pine tree, nicknamed Pino Solo, located on the highest point of the estate and visible from many Napa Valley sites.
