Château Les Ormes de Pez has been the property of the Cazes family since 1840, who are also at the head of Château Lynch-Bages, a Pauillac Grand Cru Classé. The current property was already called Domaine de Pez ("peace" in the local dialect) in the 18th century and the Ormes, which have been proudly displayed on the label of the bottles since 2003, covered the entire estate before this tree disappeared in Europe in the 1950s.
Typical of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, the vineyard of Château Les Ormes de Pez extends over 35 hectares, on the one hand on gravelly plots composed of quartz and rolled pebbles that are perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon (54% of the grape varieties), on the other hand on cooler clay-sandy plots for Merlot vines (37% of the grape varieties). Cabernet Franc (7%) and Petit-Verdot (2%) complete these grape varieties.
The wines of Château Les Ormes de Pez are reputed to be powerful and harmonious, with a significant proportion of Merlot providing longevity and suppleness. These are greedy, fruity wines with an imposing tannic structure. Château Les Ormes de Pez is classified as an exceptional Cru Bourgeois.
