Château Brane-Cantenac is a great Margaux wine that was founded in the 18th century by the Gorce family. It became 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Lucien Lurton inherited it in 1956 and his son Henri Lurton has been at the helm of the Château since 1992.
The terroir of Château Brane–Cantenac is exceptional with the 15 hectares of sandy-gravelly soils with large pebbles at the heart of the property, the 30 hectares of very deep gravel on the famous ridge of Brane at the top of the Cantenac plateau, the 10 hectares of the Verdotte cultivated since 2010 in biological control and the 13 hectares of Notton on a beautiful gravelly plateau.
Château Brane-Cantenac has implemented an environmentally friendly viticulture that encourages the use of certified organic products and gives priority to the reduction of phytosanitary treatments. In 2011, 18 hectares were converted to organic farming. The Château also adopted a sustainable development approach in 2012 with an integrated management system in order to optimise the impact of the activity on the environment.
