Château Giscours is a great Bordeaux wine in the Margaux appellation and 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. The vineyard covers 80 hectares on slightly sandy gravel soils, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon for 60%, Merlot for 32% and the rest with Cabernet Franc and Petit-Verdot.
The history of Château Giscours dates back to the 14th century, at the time a simple keep used to defend the inhabitants, but it was in 1552 that the wine estate was created by Pierre de Lhomme, who bought the house of "Guyscoutz". The success of Giscours was really built in the 19th century by the successive owners, the Promis, Pescatore and Cruse families.
The modern history of Giscours is marked by the purchase of the Château in 1995 by Eric Albada Jelgersma, a Dutch businessman, who passed away in 2018, who undertook considerable efforts both in the vineyard and in the cellars and all the buildings, to give Château Giscours and its wines the place it deserves.
