Calon Ségur is 2000 years of history! The name Calon comes from the term "Calones" which, in Gallo-Roman times, referred to small trading ships that sailed on the Gironde estuary. It was from the 12th century that wine was produced there and from the 18th century that Calon, which became Calon Ségur, became one of the most prominent estates in Bordeaux, under the aegis of the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, who also owned Latour, Lafite and Mouton.
The 55-hectare vineyard is located in Saint-Estèphe and is, a rare thing in the Médoc, in one piece and enclosed by walls. The most beautiful plots are at the foot of the castle and are designated by "L'Enclos". More than 50% of the grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon.
Calon Ségur wine offers a perfect balance between great finesse and incredible intensity. Château Calon Ségur also produces a second wine: Marquis de Calon.
Château Calon Ségur is now in the hands of Jean-Pierre Denis, who has entrusted the reins to Laurent Dufau and Vincent Millet as technical director. The team has been working for several years to modernise the cellars: latest-generation truncated conical stainless steel vats for the implementation of plot selections, gravity vinification process to guarantee the integrity of the grapes from the sorting table to the vat.
