When David Hohnen founded the estate in 1970, the reputation of the wines of Margaret River, at the south-western tip of Australia, was well established, but the potential was extraordinarily promising.

Since 1984, Cape Mentelle has received critical acclaim for its red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, which are distinguished by their complexity and finesse.

Since then, great dry white wines and particularly pleasing Syrah cuvées have been added to the range of this highly regarded producer who offers some of the most refined and "European" wines in Australia.
