The Domaine de La Solitude is currently owned by the Lançon brothers, Jean and Michel. The exceptional quality of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines of the Domaine de La Solitude is the result of the marriage of a long historical tradition and an exceptional terroir, one of the most beautiful in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the vines of the Domaine de la Solitude developing on a terrain of rolled pebbles from the Villafranchian era.
In 1999, driven by a desire to perfect their wines while respecting tradition and with a concern for excellence, Jean and Michel Lançon decided to create their prestigious cuvées, which are today at the origin of the worldwide reputation of Domaine de La Solitude. These cuvées come from a special selection of the estate's best plots and are only made when the vintage allows it: Barberini cuvée in red and white, Réserve Secrète cuvée in red and Cornelia Constanza cuvée in red.
The Domaine de la Solitude belongs to one of the oldest families in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Traces of it can be found as early as the 15th century, but in Italy it goes back even further in time, to the very ancient and no less illustrious Barberini family. Francis Barberini, born in Tuscany in 1264, lived in Provence for a few years and the best known of the family, Maffeo Barberini, was apostolic nuncio in Paris from 1604 to 1606 and then elected Pope in Rome under the name of Urban VIII.
