Château Clinet is one of the most prestigious wine estates in Pomerol, located 40 km east of Bordeaux, on an exceptional terroir whose gravelly clay soils offer Merlot their most beautiful expressions. The blend of the wines is composed of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The name Clinet can be found as early as 1785, spelled "Cliné" and derived from the Old French "cliner" meaning "to lean, to incline", designating a vineyard around an old church, probably referring to the slope descending from the famous Pomerol plateau and providing the vineyards with natural drainage. Since 1988, Château Clinet has been owned by the Laborde family.
Over the course of its history, Château Clinet has won numerous awards. We can note the gold medals at the international exhibitions of Paris in 1879, Saint-Louis in 1904 and Liège in 1905, and more recently the score of 100 that Robert Parker gave him for the 1989 and 2009 vintages.
