Château Filhot is a Bordeaux wine estate in AOP Sauternes whose vineyard existed as early as 1630. The current estate was created in 1709 by Romain de Filhot, a councillor in the Parliament of Bordeaux.
Classified as a second growth in the 1855 classification, Château Filhot was then marketed worldwide under the name of Château Sauternes until the end of the 19th century when it took its name back in 1901. Since 1974, it has been managed by Count Henri de Vaucelles, who was joined by his son Gabriel in 1996.
It extends over 62 hectares of vines on the south- and south-west facing slopes, on gravel, clay and sand soils, 60% of which are Sémillon, 36% Sauvignon and 4% Muscadelle. It is crossed by the small river Ciron, thus offering perfect microclimatic conditions for the development of botrytis cinerea. Yields are very low, around 10 to 20 hl/ha depending on the vintage.
