Created in 1725, only 4 families have succeeded each other at the head of Château Gruaud Larose in nearly 3 centuries: the Gruaud and Larose family, the Balguerie and Sarget families, the Cordier family and the Merlaut family.
Château Gruaud Larose is a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in the Saint-Julien appellation which also produces a second wine, Sarget de Gruaud Larose.
The estate extends over 82 hectares, on a terroir of Garonne gravel from the Quaternary deposited more than 600,000 years ago.
