Château Sociando-Mallet is a Haut-Médoc AOP wine estate, located north of Pauillac. Traces of the vineyard can be found as early as 1633, when it was owned by an aristocrat of Basque origin by the name of Sociondo.
The modern history of Château Sociando-Mallet belongs to Jean Gautreau, who was born in Lesparre in 1927 but has no ties to the world of wine. He was a high-level tennis player at the time, as he played in the semi-finals of Roland Garros as a junior at the age of 18. It was after the war, in 1948, that he set up as a wine broker and then in 1957, he created his own trading company with which he won important customers in northern Europe, Belgium and the Netherlands. He became the owner of Château Sociando-Mallet in 1969, with buildings in poor condition and a vineyard of only 5 hectares
Château Sociando-Mallet now has an 83-hectare vineyard with a magnificent terroir of Günzian gravel on clay subsoil, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. Château Sociando-Mallet also produces a second wine, the Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet.
