The history of the Château de Poncié began in 949, when the Château, already renowned for its wines, then known by the Latin name of Villa Ponciago, was offered to the Abbey of Cluny.
The estate extends over 120 hectares of meadows and woods, including 48 hectares of vines, grouped around the 18th century Château, on about forty terroirs with different characters and diverse exposures, which allow all the facets of Fleurie wines to be highlighted: Brirette, Hauts du Py, Muriers, Carcans, Montgenas, Poncié, The Salomine, the Pre King. This diversity of terroirs makes Château de Poncié a unique ensemble.
The vineyard is managed using sustainable viticulture, favouring grass cover and tillage with low yields of 45 hl/ha up to less than 25 hl/ha for some plots and manual harvesting. In the cellar, the harvest is partly destemmed and the vatting is long, from 8 to 20 days with gentle and regular punching down and pumping over. The wines are aged in barrels of one year or more and their duration is according to each cuvée to give body with restraint and elegance.
