The Château Pichon Baron wine estate, 2nd Grand Cru Classé of the Médoc, extends over 73 hectares of high-quality gravelly soils, low in nutrients and without excess water, bearing vines of 35 years of age on average. The oldest vines produce the wine of Château Pichon Baron while the younger vines produce two second wines, Les Tourelles de Longueville and Les Griffons de Pichon Baron. The vineyard is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
The estate dates back to 1689 when Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan bought vines located next to the Latour estate and his daughter later married Baron Jacques Pichon de Longueville. In 1850, the property was divided into 2 parts, the one going to Baron Raoul Pichon de Longueville who gave birth to the Pichon Baron estate and the one going to his three sisters which saw the creation of the Pichon Comtesse estate. The castle, inspired by the Renaissance style, was built in 1851 with its two emblematic turrets.
In 1987, the Pichon Baron estate was bought by AXA Millésimes and in 1988, the complete reconstruction of the vat room and cellar began, as well as the renovation of the château.
