Château Ferrière is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Margaux appellation and whose great wine is 3rd Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification.
The history of the property begins in the 17th century with Gabriel Ferrière, a shipbroker and officer of the king's hunts. In 1952, the owners of the château, the Durand heirs, leased the vines to Alexis Lichine, owner of Château Lascombes, who was then responsible for the maintenance and exploitation of the vines and had the harvest which went mainly to that of Château Lascombes. It was not until 1988 that Jacques Merlaut bought the vines and the château and 1992 that the lease contract with Château Lascombes was terminated and the first vintage of Château Ferrière produced by Bernadette Villars-Merlaut was born. Jacques Merlaut and his family were also the owners of Châteaux Chasse-Spleen, La Gurgue and Haut-Bages Libéral.
It was following the accidental death of her parents in 1992 that Claire Villars took over her mother's work. She married Gonzague Lurton (Château Dufort-Viviens) in 1994 and since 2000, has been in charge of the full management of Château Ferrière, Château Haut-Bages Libéral and Château La Gurgue.
In addition to the technical improvements made year after year to each of the properties, Claire Villars Lurton strives to always improve the great terroirs for which she is responsible, and undertakes to convert her wines to biodynamics.
