Château Rauzan-Ségla is a wine estate in Bordeaux, 2nd Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Médoc wine classification, in the Margaux appellation. It extends over 66 hectares of vines, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (35%), on fine and deep gravel soils.
The history of Château Rauzan-Ségla dates back to the middle of the 17th century when Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan decided to plant vines on his land. 30 years later, the Rauzan vineyard extends over 25 hectares in Margaux. The export of Rauzan wines to England took off in the 18th century, but it was in the United States that history began when the future President Thomas Jefferson, a great lover of Bordeaux wines, began to buy Rauzan wines.
It was during this period that the Rauzan vineyard was divided and gave birth to Rauzan-Ségla in part, the other part taking the name of Rauzan-Gassiès in 1839.
Since 1994, Château Rauzan-Ségla has been the property of the Wertheimer brothers, at the head of the House of Chanel, who also owns Château Canon in Saint-Emilion.
