Château du Vieux Puit has belonged to the Bouillac family for half a century, whose vineyards extend over 80 hectares with a great diversity of terroirs: clay and clay-limestone soils for Merlot, sandy-gravelly soils for Cabernet Sauvignon and clay-gravelly soils for Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc.
The Bouillac family uses in these wines, alone or in blends, grape varieties that are rarely used today in Bordeaux, such as Petit Verdot and Malbec, the latter once representing an important part of the Bordeaux grape varieties. For example, the "Les Mains Sales" cuvée is produced in 100% Malbec and 100% Petit Verdot.
The Bouillac family also has nurseries where different varieties of vines are grown for wine estates.
