The turbulent political climate that prevailed that year in France certainly found its way into the vineyards ... The conditions were so difficult: a harsh winter, a cold spring, a late flowering, a cool and rainy summer. The ripening of the grapes was incomplete and resulted in abundant and low-quality harvests in many vineyards in Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone Valley, both for red and sweet white wines.
Apart from a few rare great wines intended for collectors, it is now better to turn to wines from other countries and to spirits in this vintage. It is in Piedmont, where the climatic conditions were much better, that we find the best red wines of 1968, the great Italian wines of Barolo.
There are also beautiful ports, whiskies and quality Armagnacs in this 1968 vintage.
