1970, a vintage that has been a long time coming

After the 3 generally mediocre vintages of 1967, 1968 and to a lesser extent 1969, the 1970 vintage arrives, for many winegrowers, estates and châteaux, as a deliverance. Very prolific all over France, and especially in Burgundy and Bordeaux, the quantity has weighed on the quality but fortunately we find beautiful successes with very good wines to taste.

The price of the 1970 wines

After more than 50 years, the wines of 1970 are inevitably rarer and their price has increased, but higher than average yields that year have made it possible to produce many wines. They are therefore relatively easier to find at an affordable price than some vintages that are comparable in quality but significantly less quantitative.

The best wines of 1970

If you're more into Bordeaux, the red wines from the great chateaux of Pomerol, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe and the great sweet white wines of Sauternes are the best choices. Elsewhere in France, you have to go to the famous estates in the Côte-Rôtie and Hermitage appellations and to rare vintages of Champagne. The best wines from Piedmontese in Italy, Rioja in Spain and California in the USA (remember the famous judgment of Paris...), although rare now, also offer beautiful bottles.
