The Hospices de Beaune was first and foremost a hospital, the Hôtel-Dieu, founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin and Guigone de Salins.

This institution has survived the centuries and today has a unique and exceptional heritage, consisting of the magnificent 15th century Hôtel-Dieu building, and a prestigious 60-hectare wine estate of the best appellations in Burgundy.

All the vines come from bequests and donations, and their production is auctioned every year on the 3rd Sunday of November, as part of the most famous charity sale in the world.
