Château Cheval Blanc is a Bordeaux winery in Saint-Emilion that extends over 39 hectares of vines, actually forty-five different plots, a vineyard planted with 53% Cabernet Franc, 42% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, it is part of the very closed circle of Premier Grands Crus Classés, on a par with the greatest châteaux of the Médoc.
Château Cheval Blanc benefits from a unique terroir, different from the other great estates of the appellation located on limestone soils dating from the Tertiary era: varied soils mixing gravel and clay from Quaternary alluvium of the Isle.
We know from the poet Ausonius that the Romans were already producing wines in Saint-Emilion around the year 350 and the vine continued to develop, then favoured in the 12th century by the development of trade with England while the province was English. It was in the second half of the 19th century, under the impetus of Jean Laussac-Fourcaud, that Cheval Blanc wines gained their international renown: first medal at the Universal Exhibition in London in 1862 and then in 1878, first gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. The end of the century also saw the construction of the Château in the heart of the estate.
In 1954, Château Cheval Blanc was distinguished at the highest level of Saint-Emilion wines, with its classification as Premier Grand Cru Classé A. In 1998, Bernard Arnault and Albert Frère became the owners and gave a new development to the château, in particular with the construction of the new cellar designed by the architect Christian de Portzamparc. There is 1 product.
