ALIGOTÉ
Aligoté is in France an essentially Burgundian grape variety, with some vines in the south-east of France, which occupies about 1000 hectares or 6% of the Burgundian grape varieties. It is also found in Switzerland and Eastern Europe, Crimea and Romania.
Known in Burgundy since the 17th century, it gives the Bourgogne Aligoté whose appellation dates back to 1937, a wine best known for being used in the composition of Kir with crème de cassis. In recent years, it has been revived in Burgundy where it has gained a strong reputation thanks to excellent winemakers who produce lively and aromatic white wines (acacia, lemon, hazelnut, green apple, citrus) of high quality.
Aligoté is also known as Blanc de Troyes, Carcarone, Griset blanc, Mukhranuli, Plant gris, Trojen Blanc or Vert Blanc.
