Domaine Pierre Gaillard is a family-run winery that extends over 25 hectares in the northern Rhône Valley, from Côte-Rôtie in the north to Cornas in the south. The vines are located on steep slopes in the last foothills of the Massif Central, on a wide variety of soils such as decaying schist (Côte-Rôtie), weathered granite (Saint-Joseph, Condrieu and Côtes-du-Rhône), with bedrock outcropping on some plots. The grape varieties are Syrah in red and Viognier and Roussanne in white.
Pierre Gaillard bought the Clos de Cuminaille in Malleval in 1981, after obtaining his national diploma in oenology in Montpellier and an experience as a vineyard manager in the Côte-Rôtie. He settled in 1987 on the heights of the village and developed the estate by setting up optimal conditions of hygiene and thermoregulation, manual harvesting, vinification by plot and by grape variety. He manages the estate with his wife Pascale and daughter Jeanne Gaillard, herself a winemaker and producer of her own wines.
Pierre Gaillard also created the Madeloc estate in Banyuls-sur-Mer in 2002 and the Cottebrune estate in Faugères in 2007.
