The Australian vineyard of Pewsey Vale is located in the Eden Valley, at an altitude of 500 meters, 250 meters above the Barossa Valley. The cool climate allows the grapes to ripen for a long time for the production of great white Riesling wines.
It was in 1847, shortly after his arrival from England, that Joseph Gilbert settled in the Eden Valley and planted the first vines in the region. After a period of oblivion in the 1920s and 1930s, like many Australian wineries, Pewsey Vale was finally reborn in 1961 thanks to Geoffrey Angas Parsons and Wyndham Hill Smith, with 56 hectares of Riesling vines.
Pewsey Vale is now run by Darrell and Louisa Rose, who obtained organic certification for their "Contours Block" vineyard in 2013. They also apply the principles of biodynamics with particular attention paid to the protection of biodiversity on the estate.
