Casarena is a large Argentine winery of 160 hectares located in the best terroirs of the upper valley of Mendoza, Perdriel and Agrelo, in Luján de Cuyo, at almost 1000 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Andes Mountains.
Founded in 1937, the estate includes 4 distinct vineyards: Jamilla, Naoki, Owen and Lauren.
Dating back to 1930, planted at 960 meters above sea level, Owen is the oldest vineyard, the one that has survived, which is the genetic and emotional memory of the estate in Luján de Cuyo. It offers a wide variety of soils, clayey and deep, outcropping rocks on shallow clay-sandy soils, limestone rocks.
The Jamilla vineyard was planted in 1995 at an altitude of 940 metres around the winery and cellars of the estate built nearly a century ago. The soils are those of the ancient bed of the Mendoza River, composed of clay substrate, pebbles and gravel, and are very permeable.
Lauren is a vineyard planted in 2006 at an altitude of 918 metres, in the coolest part of Agrelo on deep clay-sandy soils, where the temperature differences between day and night are significant.
Finally, Naoki is the most recent vineyard, planted in 2010 at an altitude of 950 metres, on arid limestone soils, considered not very suitable for the development of the vines, but which Casarena's efforts have made very interesting. Planted in terraces on steep slopes with an east-west exposure, it offers different exposures and soils very different from other vineyards.
