ARGENTINA

Argentinian wines, wines from Argentina, Malbec

With 220,000 hectares of vineyards, Argentina is now the 7th largest wine-growing country in the world and the 5th largest wine producer. In the space of twenty years, Argentina has gone from mass production of rosé wines for local consumption to the production of great white and red wines. The region of Mendoza in particular, in the foothills of the Andes, has become synonymous with quality for wine lovers and Malbec, this grape variety formerly confined to the South-West of France and which made the reputation of Cahors wines, introduced in Argentina in 1868, has become the emblematic grape variety of Argentine red wines, with 75% of the world's grape varieties of this grape variety.

The modernisation of the Argentinian vineyards

Of course , Argentina had a local know-how inherited from an old winemaking tradition dating back to the 16th century and very beautiful terroirs at high altitudes adapted to the production of high quality wines, but thesetremendous results were nevertheless obtained in a short time thanks to very important efforts to raise the quality of the vineyard. Modernize the facilities and boost the marketing of wines.

Grape varieties of Argentinian wines

The origin of the grape varieties planted is mainly Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and French and follows the different waves of European immigration since the 16th century. Once in the majority, the traditional grape varieties used for rosés, Criola, Cereza and Moscatel Rosada, now account for only 25% of production.
As far as Argentinian red wines are concerned, Malbec is a must and perfectly adapted to the terroir of Mendoza with wines that are very different from those of Cahors, rather smooth, ripe and round. This is followed by Bonarda, a great Italian grape variety from Lombardy, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Argentinian white wines, on the other hand, are mainly made from Torrontés with aromatic and supple wines and Chardonnay. However, the Argentinian vineyard remains very eclectic with no less than a hundred grape varieties planted.

La Bouteille Dorée offers you a beautiful selection of Argentinian wines from the most beautiful regions, individually to discover and taste, in a discovery box of Argentinian wines or in a gift box.
