Château Monbrison is a Bordeaux wine estate that extends over about 21 hectares in the Margaux appellation and whose wine is classified as a Cru Bourgeois. It adjoins Château Le Tertre and Château Angludet on one side and Château Giscours on the other.
Originally a farmstead of the neighbouring Château d'Arsac, owned by the Ségur family, the estate was sold in 1749 to Monsieur de Copmartin, King's Counsellor in Bordeaux. It took its current name when Monsieur de Monbrison became its owner in 1818.
From 1922 until today, Château Monbrison remains attached to the Davis family named after Robert M. Davis, an American who acquired it. He added a large plot of about 7 hectares, adjoining the lands of Giscours, called "Cordet", on which the château now produces the 2nd wine of Monbrison, the "Bouquet de Monbrison". His daughter Elizabeth Davis and grandson Laurent Vonderheyden follow each other at the head of the estate.
The grape varieties are divided between Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (15%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The estate's old vines date back to 1963, and the winemaking work of Jean-Luc and then Laurent Vonderheyden has given Château Monbrison wines a fine reputation.
