Bruno Clair founded his wine estate south of Dijon in Burgundy in 1979, with a few plots of Marsannay and Fixin, a plot in Savigny-les-Beaune and another fallow in Morey-Saint-Denis. It now covers 23 hectares and is one of the most beautiful appellations and climates on both coasts.
Son of Bernard Clair and grandson of Joseph Clair, who founded the renowned Domaine Clair-Daü in 1919 in Marsannay, he witnessed the dismantling of the latter in 1985, after the death of his grandfather, an event unfortunately quite common in Burgundy where family successions are often difficult. However, his talent and hard work allowed him to gradually develop his estate, first in 1986 with the takeover of several family vines in Gevrey-Chambertin (Clos de Bèze, Les Cazetiers, Clos St-Jacques), Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne-Romanée and then in 1993, on the Côte de Beaune in Corton-Charlemagne, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton.
Bruno Clair has set up a reasoned prophylactic fight against vine diseases and pests, compost (no chemical fertilisation) and ploughing, manual harvesting and an extremely rigorous sorting of the harvest.
