The Domaine des Grandes Espérances is a wine estate in the Loire Valley that extends over 24 hectares with many different grape varieties, the red grape varieties (Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Gamay, Pinot Noir) on soils mainly composed of sand and gravel, and the white grape varieties (Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay) on more siliceous soils.
The estate adhered to the Terra Vitis approach, a pioneer of sustainable viticulture in France, more than ten years ago, and is currently in the process of converting to organic farming. Cultivation practices include short pruning, disbudding and leaf thinning, tillage, grassing of certain plots and green harvesting.
The white wines benefit from short skin macerations before pressing and fermentation, while for the reds, the grapes are destemmed before vatting for 2 to 3 weeks depending on the vintage and the degree of maturity and the maturation takes place for the most part in stainless steel vats. For the single-vineyard cuvées, the grapes are harvested by hand with micro-vinification in barrels.
