Domaine Leflaive is a wine estate in Burgundy that extends over 25 hectares of vines in the Puligny-Montrachet appellation with in particular the great growths Montrachet, Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet, Bâtard Montrachet and Chevalier Montrachet. It has been fully converted to biodynamics since 1993.
Although the history of the estate dates back to the beginning of the 18th century, it was really in 1920 that it really took off. Joseph Leflaive, a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and a Marine Engineering Engineer, married Camille Biétrix du Villars and took over the family estate in Puligny-Montrachet with a programme of replanting, extension and development of the vineyard. He was assisted by François Virot, his manager and friend, and together they began to market their wines under the name of the estate. When their father died in 1953, the four children (Jo, Jeanne, Anne and Vincent) chose to maintain the unity of the estate and created the Société Civile d'Exploitation in 1973. The Domaine acquires a worldwide reputation.
In 1990, Anne-Claude Leflaive, a graduate in oenology, was appointed co-manager with her cousin Olivier. She took over the management of the estate alone in 1994 while Olivier continued with his own vineyard created in 1984. For nearly 25 years, until her death in 2015, she tremendously developed the worldwide reputation of the great Burgundy wines by becoming a pioneer in biodynamics. Domaine Leflaive is now managed by Brice de La Morandière, great-grandson of founder Joseph Leflaive.
