Katogi Averoff Estate is a 15-hectare winery located in northwestern Greece, in the Metsovo region of Epirus. It was founded in 1959 by Evangelos Averoff, a prominent politician and renowned intellectual, who worked all his life for the promotion of his country and the development of his region.
He was the first to plant the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety in Greece and after several years of producing wine at home, he decided in 1973 to build a winery. Little by little, the estate favoured autochthonous grape varieties, such as Agiorgitiko, which today represent the vast majority of the grape varieties.
Among the wines produced are Ktima Katogi, a blend of Roditis and Chardonnay that requires about ten years of bottle aging, the wines of the Rossiu di Monte range made from the Vlachiko and Xinomavro grape varieties, and therefore a Cabernet Sauvignon cuvée from vines planted at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters.
The estate practices viticulture that respects the environment.
