Château Larrivet Haut-Brion is a Bordeaux wine estate that extends over 75 hectares in the Graves appellation, on heavily gravelly soils laid on a sandy or clayey layer, arranged in perfectly exposed and drained hilltops. The grape varieties include 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc and 80% Sauvignon and 20% Sémillon in white. The vines are on average 30 years old for red grape varieties and 25 years old for white varieties.
The estate was born in 1840, first under the name of Château de Canolle and then Château La Rivette, and in 1874 took the name of Château Haut-Brion Larrivet, when it belonged to Ernest Laurent, a merchant from the Place de Bordeaux. It passed into the hands of Théodor Conseil when, in 1898, the famous Féret guide classified the Château's wines as an exceptional cru of the Graves. It took its current name in 1929 and went through a difficult period with the crisis in viticulture. In 1941, Mr. Guillemaud acquired it and kept it for more than 40 years, until in 1987, when the Gervoson family became the new owner.
Philippe and Christine Gervoson set about rebuilding the plot and in a few years, the vineyard reached more than 70 hectares, 15% of which were white and 85% red. They are joined by Bruno Lemoine for management and winemaking and Emilie Gervoson, one of their three daughters.
