Château Tour des Gendres is a wine estate in southwestern France that extends over 52 hectares in the Bergerac and Côtes-de-Bergerac appellations, and which advocates an avant-garde and committed viticulture, organic and protective of the heritage of local grape varieties such as Muscadelle à petits grains and Malbec.
The history of the estate began in 1925, when Vincenzo de Conti, his wife and children from Italy settled in Les Gendres, on the wine farm of the Château de Bridoire, known since the 12th century and located on the site of an old Gallo-Roman villa. Destroyed by phylloxera at the beginning of the 19th century, the vineyard now covers a tenth of the surface area of the time. In 1956, Vincenzo's son, Primo de Conti, took over the family farm with his wife Michelle, his wife who also raised a few horses.
It was really in 1982 that the wine estate was born: Luc, the 3rd generation of the family, moved to the estate attracted by his passion for horses. With the help of his wife Martine, he took over a few hectares of old vines, planted new plots and produced his first red cuvée of Château Tour des Gendres in 1986. This was followed by the first white cuvée with the Cuvée des Conti and the red cuvée La Gloire de Mon Père. He was joined in 1990 by his cousin Francis who added nearly 20 hectares of vines to the vineyards of Les Gendres and Grand Caillou and took charge of the cultivation of the vines.
In 1991, the estate launched the great cuvée Moulin des Dames in white, then in red in 1994, while conducting the first trials of organic viticulture on the Gendres property. 1996 saw the birth of the Anthologia white cuvée, a great dry white wine pure Sauvignon, then in 2000, the Anthologia red cuvée, a blend of the estate's most beautiful terroirs. In 2005, the 52 hectares of Château Tour des Gendres were converted to organic farming and in 2007, the first SO²-free vinification trials were carried out. Amphora vinification was born in 2013 and sulphur-free cuvées in 2014, with Pét' Nat' and La Vigne d'Albert.
