The Emidio Pepe Estate is located in Italy, in the north of the Abruzzo region, in Torano Nuovo. It extends over 15 hectares of vines made from the local grape varieties Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo as well as a small plot of Pecorino. It benefits from very favourable climatic conditions, between the maritime influence of the Adriatic Sea and the freshness of the Gran Sasso Apennine massif, with clay-limestone soils where the vines take root over several metres.
Emidio Pepe founded the winery in 1964, after working with his father and grandfather, the latter making wines at Casa Pepe as early as 1889. Since then, he has made every effort to promote the tremendous ageing potential of the Trebbiano and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grape varieties. The estate has remained in the family, now run by his daughters Rosa and Daniela, assisted by his granddaughters Chiara and Elisa.
From the very beginning, Emidio Pepe refused to use chemical inputs and in 2005 the winery adopted the principles of biodynamics.
