Domaine Marcel Lapierre is a Beaujolais wine estate located in Villié-Morgon, on 18 hectares of Gamay noir vines with white juice grown organically. It produces wines mainly in the Morgon appellation, and also Beaujolais on a few plots, with fermentations without inputs.
The estate was created in 1909 and Michel Lapierre worked there as cellar master. His son Camille joined him at the age of 14 to work in the vineyards, then in sharecropping, where everything was done manually or on horseback. When her father died, Camille Lapierre married Lucienne Mathieu and sought to develop direct sales in barrels, while at that time, the wines were sold entirely to the Fleurie cooperative cellar. In 1950, they gave birth to their 3rd child and their first son, Marcel, then Camille began bottling wines, labeling them with the name of the estate. He bought his first vines in 1960 and the vineyard grew to 7 hectares.
It was in 1973 that Marcel took over the estate and from the very beginning of the 80s, under the impetus of Jules Chauvet, he decided to vinify without SO2 or yeast and to cultivate his vines biodynamically, without chemical fertilizers or weedkillers. He met his future wife, Marie, during the 1980 harvest and the couple worked together at the estate two years later, driven by their conviction that wine could only be made with a deep understanding of the microbiology of the soil and the plant.
Marcel Lapierre passed away in October 2010 but the estate remains driven by his energy and his constant commitment. Today, Mathieu and his sister Camille Lapierre, Marcel's children, have taken over the reins of the family estate.
