Polvanera is an Italian winery located in Puglia that produces red and white wines in the Gioia del Colle IGT appellation, in the southern part of the province of Bari, at an attitude between 300 and 450 meters, on calcareous soils covered with a layer of characteristic ferrous red earth.
The emblematic red grape variety of the region is Primitivo and owner and winemaker Filippo Cassano has adopted natural viticulture to highlight it on this superb terroir. On his 120 hectares of vines, he works different plots planted with many local grape varieties, Primitivo, Aleatico, Aglianico, Minutolo, Moscato, Falanghina, Marchione and Bianco d'Alessano, and also a few hectares of old tree vines. The vines are all grown organically.
Polvanera ages all its wines in stainless steel vats and in bottles in order to preserve the fruit and prevent the woody notes from covering it. The names on its labels are inspired by the alcohol content of the wines: the 14 is a lively and pure wine, the 16 is a fruity wine with balanced acidity and the 17 is a fresh, elegant, tasty wine with a very long finish. The estate also produces a white wine from the Minutolo grape variety, with delicate citrus notes and very fine on the palate.
