Frédéric Magnien represents the 5th generation of winemakers in the Magnien family and is one of the spearheads of the new generation of exceptional Burgundian winegrowers.
After studying at the Lycée viticole de Beaune, he built his experience from 1986 with Jean-Noël Gagnard in Chassagne-Montrachet and then by assisting his father at the Michel Magnien estate in Morey-Saint-Denis from 1987 to 1991. In 1992, he left France and went to California, the United States for 4 months with Josh Jemsen (Domaine Calera) and 6 months in Australia with Garry Farr (Bannockburn Vineyard). He then continued his studies in oenology at the University of Dijon in 1993.
In September 1995, he created his own trading house: he then advises the winemakers with whom he works and selects with them plots mainly of old vines over 40 years old to make his great wines of the Côte de Nuits. Initially with only 21 barrels spread over 5 appellations, Maison Frédéric Magnien now has 1000 barrels in the greatest appellations and the most beautiful climates of the Côte de Nuits.
