Château Tourril is a Languedoc wine estate in the Minervois appellation, which extends over 16 hectares of vines aged between 15 and 45 years planted in a clay-limestone cirque in the middle of nature, facing south-west and drained by rain, protected from strong winds and frost.
The wines are made from the Syrah, Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan grape varieties for the red and rosé wines, Roussanne and Vermentino for the white wines.
Château Tourril owes its name to the old Gallo-Roman signal tower, "Pierre du Tourril", which has been overlooking the scrubland for two millennia. The history of the current estate dates back to the 80s when the Franco-German Kandler family arrived in the Languedoc and decided to buy lost land in the Minervois hinterland in Roubia, between land and sea, between the medieval city of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi.
The second generation of the family took over the reins in 2014, under the impetus of Stephan Kandler, a professional sailor for 20 years and a high-level sailor with a participation in the America's Cup. He undertook the enlargement of the plots and the return to wines with a refined style made with very little intervention. The organic conversion started in 2017 and the production is now certified 100% organic.
