Domaine Dreissigacker is a German family-owned winery located around the village of Bechtheim in the Rheinhessen region (Rheinhessen), the largest in Germany with more than a quarter of the country's vineyards, and which covers 21 hectares.
Jochen Dreissigacker returned to the family estate a few years ago and took over the management. The organic certification was obtained in 2010 and he has made great efforts to reduce yields below 30 hl/ha and to make better use of the vineyard plots, Geyersberg, Hasensprung, Heiligkreuz, Rosengarten and Stein, all located on marl and loess soils. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified exclusively with indigenous yeasts, without chaptalisation or sweetening, and with long fermentations under controlled temperature.
The emblematic grape variety of the estate is Riesling which represents half of the wines produced, complemented by Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Rieslaner, Pinot Noir and Saint-Laurent, the latter being a grape variety native to Alsace and which, although having disappeared from the French vineyards, is still cultivated in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Dry wines are in the majority, but the climate is perfectly conducive to the appearance of botrytis and allows the production of great sweet white wines Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese in Riesling and Rieslaner.
