The Domaine de Vénus is a Roussillon wine estate of about thirty hectares located in Maury in the Agly Valley, certified organic on 100% of the vines. The vines are planted on hillsides between 300 and 500 metres above sea level, surrounded on one side by the Pyrenees and on the other by the Corbières, crossed by the Tramontane wind which blows more than 300 days a year.
It produces 60% red wines in AOP Côtes-du-Roussillon, Côtes-du-Roussillon-Villages and VDP Côtes-Catalanes, 25% white wines in AOP Côtes-du-Roussillon, 10% rosé wines in AOP Côtes-du-Roussillon and 5% natural sweet wines in AOP Maury white and red.
The Domaine de Vénus is run by Nathalie and Laurent Abet, with the help of Agnès Pipernot, consultant oenologist. It was created at the end of 2002 with the acquisition of the first plots, then new plots on the magnificent terroir of Fenouillèdes on the heights of the Agly Valley. In 2015, an additional 15 hectares of certified organic vines were acquired and at the end of 2018, the entire estate was certified organic. It now has more than 40 plots of different sizes and exposures, mainly around Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, one of the highest altitude villages in the Côtes-du-Roussillon, a terroir that requires work and patience and which allows the production of wines imbued with freshness, with high ageing potential. In 2019, the estate built a sales cellar in Maury.
The Domaine de Vénus is characterized by a terroir imbued with freshness, an environmentally friendly viticulture, a low-intervention vinification with very little extraction and a long ageing in the cellars and in the bottle, from 4 to 5 years in total depending on the cuvée.
