Bodega Otronia is an Argentinian winery located in the heart of Patagonia at the 45'33 parallel, probably the last southern frontier to grow vines. The soil of lacustrine origin, with clays, fluvial and alluvial rocks, eolian sands, permanent winds, and a dry climate guarantee the production of disease-free organic grapes. The cold climate of Sarmiento has a great influence on the character of the wines, their acidity, purity, and distinctive aromatic profile.
The vineyard spreads upon 50 hectares of organic vineyards at an altitude of 258 metres and was planted in 2010 with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer,Torrontés, Riesling, Merlot and Malbec. The wines are grown in concrete eggs and vats, stainless steel tanks, French oak foudres of 2,500 and 5,000 litres.
In charge of the winemaking, Juan Pablo has a Degree in oenology and agriculture and was born in Mendoza, inheriting from his family, his passion for viticulture. In 2021 he was honored by the famous journalist and Master of Wine, Tim Atkin, as “Young Winemaker of the Year” in his Argentina Special Report, where his work with organic wines in Mendoza and Sarmiento stood out. In 2022 he was chosen by Patricio Tapia as Winemaker of the Year of the prestigious Descorchados 2022 guide from Argentina.
