Château-Figeac is a Bordeaux wine estate that extends over 54 hectares in one piece, in the Saint-Emilion appellation, all of which being "Premier Grand Cru Classé". About 25% of the property is not planted with vines, to promote biodiversity, with a pond, an arboretum, an orchard, a bamboo grove, a warren, holm oaks and cork oaks, hedges and rose bushes.
The wine-growing terroir of Château-Figeac is a geological exception in Saint-Emilion, with three gravelly outcrops composed of quartz and flint several metres thick and blue clays underground, forming an infinite mosaic of plots. Château-Figeac is also committed to preserving the genetic heritage by maintaining a collector's plot on 0.65 ha, bringing together a selection of clones from the most remarkable vines, in the three grape varieties.
The history of Château-Figeac is intimately linked to that of the Saint-Emilion vineyard, with Elie de Carle, the “Chevalier des vignes” in the 18th century or more recently with Thierry de Manoncourt, Premier Jurat de Saint-Emilion, whose family is still at the head of the estate.
Since 2015, Château-Figeac has adhered to the ISO 14001 environmental standard and has been awarded the HVE level 3 label. Château-Figeac also carries out a multitude of initiatives to study and protect biodiversity, including bats, bees and pollinating insects. Partnerships are created with organizations such as the League for the Protection of Birds, INRA and the network of Chambers of Agriculture.
