Château Saransot-Dupré is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Listrac-Médoc appellation, which covers 38 hectares, including a 17-hectare contiguous vineyard, the rest being natural meadows and groves.
The soils are clay-limestone, ideal for Merlot, which represents nearly 60% of the grape varieties, Petit Verdot (17%) and Cabernet Franc (15%). They are complemented by 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Carmenère. The Château also produces a white wine in very small volumes, on very old plots, the oldest of which, which represents more than half of the area, was planted in 1935, from Sémillon and Sauvignon supplemented by Muscadelle, a typical Bordeaux grape variety.
Château Saransot-Dupré was classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in 1932, a classification renewed in 2003. It won the Crus Bourgeois Cup in 2017 and is the first Château from Listrac to have won this cup.
The history of the estate began in 1735 when Jean-Pierre Hosten bought the Grand Enclos de Saransot to plant it with vines. In 1844, he ceded his share of the inheritance to the Dupré family, who united it with another Listrac estate, and in 1868, the entire estate was divided into two parts, including Château Saransot-Dupré composed of the vines of the large enclosure. It now belongs to the Raymond family since the purchase in 1875 by Ovide Raymond, and despite the Phylloxera crisis which in 1879 destroyed the Bordeaux vineyards and ruined the family, they managed to keep the estate to this day.
