Bordeaux 1976
The 1976 vintage was very successful in Pauillac, Saint-Julien and Saint-Estèphe.
The sweet white wines of Barsac and Sauternes offer rich wines of excellent quality.
The year 1976 is often referred to as the year of drought and for the vineyards, the torrid summer led to very early harvests, in fact the earliest since those of 1945. But this heat was unfortunately accompanied by heavy rains in September which degraded the quality of the grapes in part of the Bordeaux vineyards. The Médoc vineyards experienced these conditions but the rains did not affect the quality of the wines in the north of the Médoc and in the Sauternes.
Burgundy 1976
A great vintage for both red and white wines, but we have to go for the very best wines, as a large number of wines have now passed. In Burgundy, the vines withstood the drought of 1976 better and the grapes were perfectly healthy during the harvest, very early as in Bordeaux.
Champagne 1976
A superb vintage with champagnes that have evolved while retaining a lot of finesse.
Exceptional climatic conditions in Champagne with the perfect health of the grapes and very early harvests.
Other successes of 1976
Among the great successes of the 1976 wines, we can note:
- The great dry and sweet Rieslings and Gewurztraminers in late harvest and selection of noble grains from Alsace and the Rhine and Moselle in Germany.
- Wines from the South-West, in particular Cahors.
- You can also turn to the natural sweet red wines of Roussillon, the old Maury and Rivesaltes being cut for a very long ageing.
