Bordeaux 1977

Bordeaux 1977

The 1977 vintage in Bordeaux is certainly one of the smallest vintages of the 70s, along with 1972, 1973 and 1974, due to a very harsh winter and spring followed by a wet and cold summer, the beautiful warm weather of the harvest unfortunately coming too late. Merlot in particular suffered enormously from the frosts, causing a lot of damage on the right bank in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol.

Les rares réussites du millésime 1977

The rare successes of 1977

We will find only very rare successes in France, the country having experienced almost everywhere the same mediocre climatic conditions: the wines of 1977 from Burgundy, Rhône, Champagne or Alsace are not wines for ageing.
Great successes are also rare outside France: in Italy (Piedmont and Tuscany wines) and Portugal, the 1977 vintage being a great vintage for Port wines.
